Lumia Statement on Buffalo, NY and Recent Shootings
We are proud of every single one of you for showing up to be a part of our community and of the discipline of coaching that brings so much hope to the world
To our Lumia Community:
In recent weeks the US has seen a devastating rash of shootings targeting diverse populations, specifically the horrific massacre that took place in Buffalo, New York, that was premeditated and intended to cause irreparable harm to a predominantly Black community. This sits alongside a distressing trend of hate-motivated mass shootings targeting Latinx, Asian American Pacific Islanders, and other minority groups.
From Atlanta to Pittsburgh to El Paso to Charleston, recent attacks were driven by racist worldviews, white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-semitism. The Lumia community is extraordinarily diverse, and the pain that stems from racially motivated, senseless loss and violence impact our community deeply. We condemn these attacks and the rhetoric that has fueled such violence. And, we cannot ignore the grave impact on our collective mental health.
Today, and in the weeks and months ahead, please take care of yourself and each other. We need to normalize deep care as a community and show up in a way that allows for others to be fully human and be honored if they are experiencing pain or grief. In our classrooms and virtual gathering spaces, please pause and turn your camera off if you need to as you set about the work of learning and growing.
We are proud of every single one of you for showing up to be a part of our community and of the discipline of coaching that brings so much hope to the world when the hate and violence around us is so very challenging to comprehend. Thank you all for who you are and all that you do.
