What’s it Like to Be a Transition Coach?
As a transitions coach, Barb works with people who are in the midst of major life changes. Some common scenarios her clients are facing include:
- Relationship endings and divorce
- Job changes or starting a new career
- Grief and loss
The common thread amongst all of these situations are the feelings of uncertainty and anxiety that accompany abrupt or major life changes.
In her coaching practice, Barb holds space for the passage through the unknown that her clients are making. Together, they unpack whatever the person is going through to organize the experience and begin to chart a course forward.
“I’m able to sit with them in that discomfort and help them to feel a little more certain in a world that is always going to be uncertain.” - Barb Matias Haynes
How did Barb decide to become a transitions coach?
At the time that Barb began training to become a coach, she was going through a major transition herself. Her husband of 20 years had recently asked for a divorce, and she found herself navigating the unknown in tandem with launching her coaching practice.
Barb didn’t set out to choose a coaching niche - this work found her naturally. As she shared her personal story with others, she found that those experiences resonated with others. People who were going through big life changes of their own were attracted to how Barb had evolved on her own path, and began seeking out her coaching services.
Listen in as Barb and Lumia CEO Noelle Cordeaux talk about life transitions, and the coaching techniques that can be used to support others in navigating this terrain!
